Meet our team
Peter Raby - Owner & Director
Pete has been in the industry for 12 years. Pete has lived permanently in the Cairns area for the last 10 years, while identifying a huge gap in the local market, being that there were no mid-size companies servicing the domestic sector. He created Pete’s Painting Solutions to fill that void so the domestic customers could enjoy the benefits that a company structure brings over small operations. Since then he has branched out into the larger commercial market and completed a number of large iconic, landmark buildings in Cairns. However, PPS will never lose sight of its original vision of servicing the domestic market in far North Queensland
Pete’s experience in domestic and commercial painting ensures that your project is quoted to the finest detail, to include everything you need with 100% clarity between the clients and Pete’s Painting Solutions.
Pete and his management oversee all aspects of your job from the initial contact to the hand-over of the job, giving you the confidence that your job will be completed in the best timeframe, to the highest quality.
Nick Raby - Operations Manager
Nicks’s pre-painting experience was as the operations manager for Buildsafe Australia, building that company from one branch with 25 staff to several branches with more than 200 staff in his 12-year tenure. This gives Nick exceptional management and control qualities that have transferred wonderfully into PPS and has truly transformed our accountability. Nick’s 2 years so far in the painting industry has really given him the insight to control all facets of operation very efficiently. Also, Nick’s experience at Buildsafe means there is absolutely nothing about access that he is not an absolute expert on.
Nick ensures that the staff are reliable, inspecting the site frequently throughout the job for quality control.
Andrew Raby - High Risk Machinery Operator & Scaffolder
Andrew’s high-risk skills enable the team to perform all works at multiple levels. Ensuring that Pete’s Painting Solutions is working safely to the Australian building standards.
Andrew has 6 years’ experience in the painting industry and a large amount of time working in height access. This makes Andrew uniquely qualified as he can perform both painting and access simultaneously. In Cairns, if you take just one look at the Reef Casino, Drew painted the whole exterior virtually single handedly.
Our team of painters
Our team consists of a crew of up 12 tradespeople. With many staff living locally, both male and female, we ensure that our skillset is adequate for every job. With many different areas of expertise across our team, we can perform all painting works to the best ability.
With a number of our painters having in excess of 20+ years’ experience, this gives us a very large combined total of years in the industry, meaning there is not much we have not seen or cannot get the appropriate skillset for.

Caution with newly painted areas
Cleaning of fresh paint film will damage the paint, and this may require repainting to restore the desired level of finish.
Avoid cleaning the paint finish until at least four weeks after application to ensure the paint has had sufficient time to fully cure.
Always test the cleaning method in an inconspicuous area to ensure the cleaning process you plan to use does not alter the finish of the paint.
Cleaning internal walls & ceilings
To maintain a freshly painted look on your internal walls or ceilings the trick is to clean them on a regular basis and to react quickly to serious stains.
Cleaning internal doors & trim
Contaminants, which settle on paint film, can attack the surface and cause premature coating breakdown. Regardless of the substrate type, all exterior painted surfaces will benefit greatly from an annual clean. Pay attention to areas that are not subject to regular rain exposure.
The procedures noted below will increase the life of the coating and maintain the aesthetic properties of the paint finish.
External walls, facades & associated items
Repairs to timberwork
Timber exhibits a high level of movement as it expands and contracts in hot and cold conditions. Certain types of timber are more prone to cracking. When cracks occur in timber, timely maintenance is essential as moisture readily enters the area causing blistering, mould and rotting. Rectification should be carried out by a suitably qualified professional applicator.
Repairs to steelwork
All traces of rust must be removed via mechanical means then spot primed and top coated. This should be carried out by a suitably qualified professional applicator.
Oil-based paints contain alkyd resin which when exposed to oxygen over a long-period of time, yellows.
Advancements in technology allow paints to already have low VOCs. Non-VOC paint can be requested for those with sensitivities.
Our knowledgeable team members will be happy to discuss the benefits of the different finishes at your consultation.
